Our Application
The City of Sports
Munich is a city with a heart: cosmopolitan, tolerant and colourful! A city that combines modernity and tradition. In the „Sports City of Munich“ with 700 sports clubs and more than 600.000 members, sports of all kinds play a central role. Munich also enjoys an international reputation as a city of culture. Last but not least, the Bavarian capital is one of the most sustainable cities in Germany and has an excellent public transport network with short distances.
An important part of our application is the partnership with the Munich Olympic Park, one of the most beautiful venues in the world, where the European Championships took place in August 2022 with great enthusiasm. For the EuroGames, all sports facilities for a large part of the disciplines would be available to us here and in the neighbouring Central University Sports Complex (ZHS). What makes us particularly happy is that the EuroGames under the sign of the LGBTIQ rainbow flag would be reminiscent of the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, which celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2022. These were then called the „Rainbow Games“ – and the Olympic Park was built for them at the time. After the successful Various Voices music festival in 2018, after the EuroGames in 2004, the annual Pride Weeks and the sports tournaments of the queer sports clubs, the EuroGames 2027 would be the largest queer event and the largest mass sports event in Munich.

Starting Signal at EGLSF AGA 2023
As a first important step on the way to the EuroGames 2027, we hosted the Annual General Assembly (AGA) of the EGLSF in March 2023. In this framework we officially announced the plans of Munich to apply for the EuroGames 2027.

The choice of the host city for the EuroGames 2027 will then probably be made in the following AGA in the first half of 2024. So we have one year after the AGA to convince the delegates of our application and to inspire them for Munich, for example with advertising measures at the EuroGames in Bern 2023, at the Various Voices Festival 2023 in Bologna and many other LGBTIQ events.
To manage these and all further steps in the coming months and years, we need support. That’s why we will be looking for volunteers in the Munich LGBTIQ community and beyond, who would like to put their two cents in, contribute their ideas and help us achieve our ambitious goal.
